A person from Burgenland travels from Vienna to Graz and is thrown out of a train in Lower Austria. What sounds like a joke has now become bitterly serious for a 47-year-old.
The last stop was Wiener Neustadt for an ÖBB passenger. The man was thrown off the train despite having a valid ticket. “I had to go from Vienna to Graz for work, so I bought a week pass for myself and my bike,” says the 47-year-old. But he needed not only a ticket for his bike, but also a parking space reservation.
He could not book this in either the online shop or via the ÖBB app. “Technically, this is only possible with newly purchased individual tickets,” says the Burgenlander. Under deadline pressure, the convinced public transport driver boarded the early train to Styria. In the hope of solving his problem on the train. But he had made his calculations without the conductor.
The passenger was shouted at
According to the passenger, he was not particularly helpful. “I was immediately told that I should have made a reservation in advance,” said the person concerned. When asked how he should do that, he received the unservice-oriented answer: “I don’t care how it works, I don’t need to know how to do it,” he barked at the 47-year-old. And threw the astonished customer out of the train under threat of the police in Wiener Neustadt.
How the railway takes a stand
The ÖBB confirmed the incident in response to a ‘Krone’ request to the effect that ‘it was not possible to take the bike without a reservation because all bike parking spaces were reserved.’ “Although there were still free spaces from Vienna, additional bikes with reservation were added from Wiener Neustadt and Mürzzuschlag.”
Please note that reservation of parking spaces for season ticket holders is only possible “via our sales channels.” This concerns the ticket office and the telephone hotline. Both were not yet occupied when the Railjet left at 05:58….
