Saturday evening, the volunteer fire brigade of Pfarrwerfen was called to an animal rescue. It was only immediately discovered that the young deer was no longer alive…
A hiker discovered a fawn on the banks of the Fritzbach late Saturday afternoon. It was lying motionless near a gravel bank on a steep dike. The local woman informed a friend, who then checked the fawn and carefully approached it.
When he finally saw the animal in the hard-to-reach spot, he carefully walked away so as not to scare it away. But because it did not seem to move from the spot and there was no mother animal in sight, he eventually called the fire department, who were then alerted at 7:45 p.m.
It was suspected that there was an injured deer calf
The team was able to quickly spot the young animal even in the twilight. At first it was considered that it might have died already, but this seemed unlikely because of its raised head. It was even assumed that the fawn could be injured.
A team therefore prepared themselves with disposable gloves, blankets and flashlights to ensure that the rescue would be as gentle as possible. The rescue then proceeded surprisingly quickly and uncomplicatedly. Because: The animal turned out to be actually already dead – and stuffed.
Stuffed cub instead of real deer
The fawn was a specimen. It was not possible to determine who and why it was placed on the gravel bank of the Fritzbach. In any case, due to its condition, it could be ruled out that it had been washed up there by the water.
Since it can be assumed that the care required will be limited, it was decided to temporarily house the fawn in the fire station.
Serious traffic accidents in which people were rescued, major fires, raging storms, the use of dangerous goods and a veritable flood of wasp nests – the year 2024 has so far seen 143 missions for the small village fire brigade Pfarrwerfen.
