Two overturned vehicles claimed the rescue services in the Tyrolean lowlands on Tuesday: In Waidring (Kitzbühel district), a German pensioner left the road due to carelessness – the car, in which the driver’s wife was also sitting, ended up on its roof on the adjacent roof of the embankment. A pick-up also overturned on the Inntal Autobahn in the Kufstein district.
The accident in Waidring took place around 5:00 p.m. The 78-year-old German was driving his car on Loferer Straße (B178) when, according to the police, he left the road on a straight stretch of road due to carelessness. “He first drove over the adjacent grass verge, damaging a road marking post and then another crash barrier.”
Car ended up on its roof
The force of the impact caused the car to overturn and land on its roof on the embankment. “The driver had to be freed from the vehicle by the Waidring volunteer fire brigade using hydraulic rescue shears,” the investigators said. Both the 78-year-old and his wife, who was sitting in the passenger seat, were injured.
Driver and woman taken to hospital
After initial treatment at the scene of the accident, the couple was taken by ambulance to the hospital St. Johann in Tirol. The B178 was initially completely closed during the operation in the area of the accident site, after which traffic was stopped in both directions.
Rollover also on the highway
Also in the Kufstein district, a spectacular accident took place on Tuesday afternoon, including a somersault. A 57-year-old local man was driving his pick-up on the Inntalautobahn near Langkampfen towards Innsbruck. “At road kilometre 9.6 he went over the right edge of the road onto the embankment and hit several trees,” the driver said.
Driver only slightly injured
The vehicle then overturned and ended up on the dike with its roof. “The driver was able to leave the vehicle independently.” The rescue operation brought the 57-year-old to Kufstein Hospital with minor injuries.
