24 human skulls have been discovered in a shrine in Uganda. Police were tipped off by residents and subsequently searched the shrine in Nateete.
The skulls were lying on the ground. The owner was arrested on Monday and is cooperating with the authorities, a police spokesman said. During questioning, the man said he was a traditional healer. This is now being checked. The search operations are also said to continue.
The shrine’s owner is being investigated under a 2020 law that bans human sacrifice, which carries long prison sentences and in some cases even the death penalty.
Another case in July
In July, police found 17 skulls in a room beneath a suspected shrine in Mpigi, west of Kampala. In this case too, it is still unclear how the skulls ended up where they were found. Police have arrested a suspect and are investigating.
