On Friday, a fatal accident occurred at work on Jakobergasse in the center of Vienna. At around 8:15 a pallet broke loose from a crane and fell on three construction workers. A 24-year-old was killed and the other two workers were seriously injured.
The pallet is said to have come loose from a great height from the crane and fallen on the three victims. In addition to the arriving police officers who provided first aid, several teams from the Vienna Professional Rescue Service and the Vienna Professional Fire Brigade were also present.
One of the victims, a 24-year-old man, was fatally injured. The emergency doctor could only determine that the man was dead. The two other victims of the accident – 42 and 56 years old – were immediately taken to hospitals with serious injuries.
Work on the construction site has been suspended for the time being
“An investigation was immediately launched in close cooperation with the labor inspectorate,” announced police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger. The crisis intervention team of the city of Vienna was also present. The construction site was checked by the fire department for further hazards. Activities have been suspended for the time being.
