Journalist Cecilia Sala, who was arrested in Iran almost three weeks ago, has been released by Iranian authorities.
The government in Rome reports this. Sala (29) is already on her way to her home country.
Sala was arrested for “violating the laws of the Islamic Republic (Iran).” It is believed that the arrest of an Iranian at Milan Malpensa Airport prompted Iranian authorities to detain the reporter.
Applause in the Senate after his release
“Diplomatic work and team spirit: this is what allows us to bring Cecilia Sala home,” said Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani about X. The Senate in Rome responded with long applause to the news of the journalist’s release .
The journalist’s father, Renato Sala, thanked Italian diplomacy for the “extraordinary work” in negotiating the reporter’s release.
