He bought drugs on the black market and weighed them at home: the cannabis weighed 510 grams – in Singapore, possession of more than 500 grams of cannabis is punishable by death. The court explained that the man knew this precisely through “research on the internet”. Because he was “very angry” with his wife, he went ahead with the treacherous plan anyway – and put the drugs in his wife’s car.
The action failed
His wife was arrested after the drugs were found in her car, but police could find no further incriminating evidence against her. Investigators eventually tracked down and arrested her husband. He was sentenced Thursday to three years and 10 months in prison, court records show.
Singapore is one of the countries with the strictest drug laws in the world. The UN and human rights groups call for the abolition of the death penalty, saying it has no deterrent effect.
