A man was overpowered by security forces during a campaign event for Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
Video footage (see below) showed the man entering the press room at the Johnstown event hall and climbing onto a platform where cameras were set up, among other things.
Security forces pulled the man down and led him out of the hall. The background to the incident and the man’s motivation remained unclear.
Trump calls newspaper ‘enemy of the people’
It was unclear whether the man was a supporter or opponent of Trump. Trump had previously – as usual in his speeches – violently attacked the American media. He called the New York Times an “enemy of the people” and spoke of the “fake news” media.
There have been heightened security measures at Trump’s events since the assassination attempt a few weeks ago. On July 13, a gunman shot Trump from a nearby rooftop during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
Trump was wounded in the right ear by a bullet and the assailant was shot dead by security forces shortly after. One visitor was killed and two others were wounded.
