The mountain rescuers from Neustift (Innsbruck-Land district) had a late intervention on Saturday! Two hikers were caught in a storm during the descent from the Zuckerhütl and could not descend the mountain alone due to the fallen darkness.
Shortly after 9pm on Saturday, a 59-year-old local man and a 51-year-old German woman were caught in a storm on the Stubai Glacier. The two of them had already been on their way down from the Zuckerhütl to the valley in the afternoon.
A thunderstorm broke out, causing the two mountaineers to seek shelter in a hut. “The woman suffered a minor abrasion on her lower right leg from a falling rock during the descent,” police said.
Recovered from hut
Due to the approaching darkness and the woman’s exhaustion, the two decided to stay in the hut and make the emergency call. The hikers were rescued at 22:15 by mountain rescuers from Neustift.
