After a defective part was found in the engine of an Airbus A350 operated by Hong Kong airline Cathay Pacific Airways, all passenger aircraft of this type must remain grounded until further notice. You will be subject to an inspection.
An inspection has been launched into these Airbus aircraft with turbines from British manufacturer Rolls-Royce, Cathay announced on Monday. This will initially lead to the cancellation of 24 flights through Tuesday.
In addition, some machines would be shut down for several days. It is a precautionary measure. The error was discovered on a plane that was due to return on Monday on a flight from Hong Kong to Zurich (see flight route below).
Apparently the world’s first known problem case
Cathay did not describe the engine component in detail. However, it said it was the first aircraft of its type to suffer such a failure anywhere in the world.
Rolls-Royce is the sole supplier of engines for the A350 long-haul aircraft. According to Flightradar24, the upturned aircraft is an A350-1000, the larger of two models of the twin-engine A350.
