A local thunderstorm cell left houses one meter under water in a small town in the Waldviertel (Lower Austria). A car also had to be freed from the mud. The material damage is enormous.
It was shortly before 5pm on Monday when the heavens opened their floodgates above the small town of Böhmhöf in Zwettl. For some residents the consequences were devastating. A stream had become a raging river that also found its way into residential buildings.
Although the fire brigade arrived quickly, the level of the originally small trickle rose even faster. Despite the fact that comrades from neighbouring fire brigades had been alerted, it could not be prevented that the water entered the buildings. A residential building was flooded, as was the cellar of the neighbouring house, which was under water by a metre. No one was injured, but according to the emergency services the damage was considerable. The fire brigade, together with a few volunteers, pumped out the water.
The level of another stream rose rapidly
Also citizens living near Sierningbach, not far away, trembled. Because the level also rose considerably. Here too the Floriani’s were on site, but intervention was fortunately not necessary.
Driver in need
Completely different from the LB 36 towards Zwettl. Numerous motorists were surprised by the sudden hailstorm. To protect their cars, some of them drove into the forest. A driver looked over a ditch in the already completely wet area and her car crashed. The fire brigade was able to save the car and the woman was even able to continue her journey.
