The Nobel Prize in Economics goes to Claudia Goldin

Date:

The 2023 Nobel Prize in Economics goes to Professor Claudio Goldin of Harvard University for her work on women in the labor market. This showed, among other things, that female employment in the American labor market did not automatically increase with the economic recovery.

She also showed that women’s wages have not increased consistently. She has taken the labor market into account for more than 200 years in her research, the statement said.

The Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences is the only Nobel Prize that does not go back to the will of dynamite inventor and prize donor Alfred Nobel (1833-1896). The prize has been sponsored by the Swedish Reichsbank since the late 1960s and is therefore not strictly speaking one of the classic Nobel Prizes.

Nevertheless, the prize will be ceremonially awarded together with the other Nobel Prizes on the anniversary of Nobel’s death, December 10. This time the award is endowed with eleven million Swedish crowns (about 950,000 euros).
