At the Holzöstersee, just across the border with Upper Austria, hikers found a homeless, scared dog. They wanted to take “Zoe” to the Pfotenhilfe animal shelter in Lochen. However, filming there is currently halted.
The American bulldog “Zoe” was out alone in the Holzöstersee (Braunau district) on Sunday afternoon. Hikers found the homeless, scared dog. They took him to Pfotenhilfe in Lochen, where the chip read: The dog is registered in Hungary under the name “Zoe”.
Due to overpopulation
Either “Zoe” escaped during a trip or she was illegally imported, not legally registered and then abandoned. The finders, who have a shelter dog themselves, have volunteered as great animal lovers and have taken ‘Zoë’ with them for the time being. Because Pfotenhilfe has had an admission freeze since last week due to overcrowding.
Since the start of the year, Lochen has seen several major cases of official animal capture. Pfotenhilfe simply cannot accommodate any more animals at the moment.
Abandonment and breeding are criminal offenses
According to the Hungarian database, “Zoe” is an American bulldog, but one with strong breeding qualities. “The snout is extremely short, which can cause severe shortness of breath even with minimal activity. Such pathological breeding traits are most often seen in French bulldogs, which have unfortunately become a fashionable breed and suffer greatly from the questionable beauty ideals of their owners,” says Pfotenhilfe boss Johanna Stadler.
Pfotenhilfe asks for information if anyone knows “Zoe” and her owner. Both animal abandonment and animal breeding are prohibited in Austria under the Criminal Code.
