The cold murder in the small town of Edling in Lower Carinthia almost became a cold case. A year and a half after the crime, the son of the 62-year-old victim was arrested on suspicion of murder and released a short time later.
A year and a half ago, the 62-year-old’s body was discovered in front of the funeral hall in Edling by a student (we reported). And shortly after the crime, the investigation stalled. Although there was speculation in the small Lower Carinthian town about the perpetrator and a possible motive, investigators seemed to have no suspect.
But now there was a twist: the handcuffs clicked on the victim’s 32-year-old son. The Klagenfurt Public Prosecutor’s Office had the Lower Carinthia, who is presumed innocent, arrested on suspicion of murder. The arrest was made on the basis of an extensive range of evidence.
The court sees no urgent suspicion
And just a few hours later, another twist. “As the proceedings currently stand, the regional court of Klagenfurt has denied an urgent suspicion of a crime that is necessary for the imposition of pre-trial detention,” Christian Liebhauser-Karl, spokesman for the regional court of Klagenfurt, told the “Krone”.
It remains unclear whether the Klagenfurt Public Prosecutor’s Office will provide new evidence to re-arrest the 32-year-old. If not, the 62-year-old’s mysterious death could finally become a cold case.
