Incorrectly parked e-scooters are a nuisance time and again. They can be very dangerous for the visually impaired.
There are bad places to park a rental scooter, and there are really stupid places for it – the sidewalk in front of the headquarters of the Blindenverband Wien at Penzinger Hägelingasse 4-6 is one of them. But especially here, rental scooters are parked all over the sidewalk, making them a dangerous trip for the visually impaired.
Profession of the district manager
The district manager of Penzing, Michaela Schüchner, therefore appeals: “In recent weeks, there have been more and more cases of incorrectly parked scooters. People with disabilities in particular often cannot avoid or recognize the scooters. Scooter riders should be more careful here. ”
Guidance systems often also serve as parking spaces
The blind association confirms the problem. Time and again there were incidents in the Hägelingasse. But this is not a new development. E-scooters can be found practically everywhere in the city, often even in the middle of the tactile guidance system for the blind and partially sighted.
“They appear as unexpected obstacles in the middle of the path and can lead to falls and injuries. Evasive maneuvers can also lead to unsafe routes having to be taken and thus new opportunities for accidents,” said a spokeswoman.
parking fines
Many experts therefore argue for stricter action and possible penalties, because a motorcycle or car on the sidewalk would be immediately towed away.
