The project in Dornach-Auhof was built and opened to traffic at a cost of 27 million euros. Protesters used the opening to express their displeasure at the “motorway madness”. However, neighbors hope that this will reduce traffic congestion.
Shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday, traffic on the A7 at the Auhof junction was opened to traffic. “Good things take time,” said FP city councilor Michael Raml at the opening ceremony, referring to the long implementation time. The construction of the entrance to the Mühlkreisautobahn was discussed 25 years ago. However, construction only began a year and a half ago.
27 million euros cost
“When construction starts, it usually happens very quickly,” agreed Linz city politicians Dietmar Prammer (SP) and Martin Hajart (VP). For them, the new access road means a major traffic relief for residents. In addition, it ensures optimum accessibility to the Dornach-Auhof district with its constantly growing university campus.
The costs of almost 27 million euros are shared by Asfinag, the state and the city of Linz. “We have reached a milestone with this,” said LH Thomas Stelzer (VP) and State Councillor for Transport Günther Steinkellner (FP).
Protester on the highway
Opponents of the project also used yesterday’s opening ceremony to express their displeasure. “Stop the highway madness” was one of their messages. A demonstrator blocked the highway entrance ramp, which was not yet open to traffic at that time.
Asfinag board member Hartwig Hufnagl also addressed the protests indirectly. He explained that in compensation, about 14,000 square meters of poor pasture were sown, 14,000 square meters were reforested and 6,000 square meters were reforested. “We always carry out our construction projects in harmony with nature.”
