Since the national introduction of the parking sticker, there is no longer any free parking. In some cases, not even on private property.
In January, parking rates will go up again and the parking sticker will also apply across the board. So those who own private property and can park there for free are lucky, right? Unfortunately, that is not the case.
There is a private area at the end of Draugasse in the 21st arrondissement, but drivers there are punished severely. Even an appeal against the punishment was unsuccessful. Because the city thinks it is right.
Barriers or signs required
The reason: If a private home is located on a street with public transport and can be used by everyone, the short-term parking zone applies. To ensure that this is not the case, the owner must mark the home as private property via signs or barriers.
“Citizens are being exploited”
Criticism comes from FPÖ city council member Toni Mahdalik: “Apparently it is not enough to exploit citizens in public space through disastrous parking management. Now their money is even being taken from their pockets on private property.”
