A technical fault caused major disruption to German rail traffic on Saturday afternoon. Numerous trains were cancelled or delayed. The fault has now been resolved, but disruptions are expected to continue until late into the night.
DB Regio said that all regional and S-Bahn traffic in the Rhine-Main area was affected. The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) also said that train traffic in the RMV area had been suspended until further notice due to a technical fault in radio communications.
Dike fire contributed to the worsening
There was also a dike fire, which is causing delays in long-distance rail traffic between Wolfsburg and Berlin. The route is currently closed and trains are being diverted, a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn said. Deutsche Bahn asked passengers to inform themselves before they start their journey.
