Students from Aalborg University wanted to show interested laymen in a spectacular way the role chemistry plays for all of us in everyday life. But an experiment in the Danish city of Tondern went terribly wrong. An explosion occurred, injuring four people.
The show was advertised as a show for the whole family and was intended to show the possibilities of chemistry. According to the Danish news agency Ritzau, there was probably an explosion in a glass container, details are still unclear.
22-year-old assistant seriously injured
A 22-year-old man who was helping with the show in a library was seriously injured. Three children were slightly injured.
The man and two children were taken to hospital for treatment, the police report said. The third child suffered only minor injuries. A total of about 40 people were present.
However, no hazardous chemicals were spread, police said, noting that psychological help was also available after the accident.
