In St. Pölten, a 9-year-old girl was hit by an alcoholic driver in a pedestrian zone and seriously injured. According to the police, the 41-year-old driver hit the girl, who was walking with her mother, on Saturday afternoon and dragged her along for a while.
The 41-year-old was just driving through a pedestrian zone on Wiener Straße from the direction of Dr.-Karl-Renner-Promenade towards Kremser-Gasse when the terrible accident occurred. He collided with the girl just before the intersection and dragged her along for a while.
The 9-year-old received first aid from an attending doctor and was immediately taken to the University Hospital St. Pölten.
Under the influence of drugs and alcohol
The 41-year-old is being reported. During an official medical examination, he was found unfit to drive due to drug addiction and an alcohol test was also positive. He is also suspected of being responsible for the property damage in St. Pölten before the traffic accident.
Once the investigation is completed, the driver will be reported to the St. Pölten public prosecutor’s office and the responsible administrative authority, police said.
