Nature is returning to the Vienna river in small pieces: another part must be freed from the gloomy concrete canal. That is not enough for the Greens. However, the city has ruled out renaturation into the city center and has given reasons for this. But there are still a few kilometers of green left.
The city wants to give the Vienna River 1.2 kilometers more nature. So far, the renaturalized river has flowed towards the city center at the Brauhausbrücke in front of the Hütteldorf train station. Now the route to the Zufferbrücke at the park-and-ride facility must also shake off its concrete corset. The Hackinger Steg train station to Hütteldorf will also be replaced by a new bridge. Planning for this is in full swing and construction work is scheduled to start in the fall of 2025.
