A walk for an 80-year-old man from St. Pölten ended in hospital. While trying to climb over a fallen tree, the pensioner slipped and slid about 25 meters down a steep slope.
The 80-year-old went hiking with two companions in Gaming in the Scheibbs district on Sunday. They climbed over the Taglesbach to the Herrenalm in fantastic weather and on the way back to the parking lot the serious accident occurred around 5:15 p.m.
Fallen tree lying across walking path
There was a fallen tree across the walking path. According to the police, a notch had already been cut into the trunk to make climbing easier. However, the man probably lost his balance and slipped. He then fell down a steep slope and was seriously injured after 25 meters.
His companions, who had witnessed the accident, immediately set the rescue chain in motion. After initial treatment on the spot, the injured person was rescued by the Christophorus 15 medical emergency helicopter and flown to Scheibbs State Hospital.
