A 57-year-old woman from Vorarlberg promised healing through dark rituals to those who sought help. She took almost 500,000 euros from the pockets of victims. On Tuesday, she was presented with the bill for her actions at the regional court in Feldkirch.
“I never wanted to enrich myself, I only wanted to help,” the benefit recipient defends in the regional court of Feldkirch and refers to allegedly numerous letters from satisfied “patients”. If you listen to their statements, they have been completely ripped off. Within eleven years, the self-proclaimed ‘witch’ has ripped off almost half a million euros by, for example, promising healing to sick patients through rituals.
The 57-year-old stole over 350,000 euros from a desperate Swiss woman. “I wanted to save my marriage. She said she could free my husband from alcohol.” And so the woman dutifully paid the proud sum of 5,000 euros for a love ritual that included a few consecrated candles. The marriage still failed. But in order not to lose the good customer, the fraudster determined that she, her sister and her father had life-threatening illnesses. “She said that if I didn’t keep paying, I would have open magic and everyone would die.”
Four years in prison for the charlatan
Another witness describes something similar. The charlatan stole around 30,000 euros from her for nothing. She offered a woman from Vorarlberg, who had just divorced her husband, that she could let her ex die for 2,000 euros. Which the shocked woman refused. Prosecutor Konstanze Manhart found clear words. She described the suspect not only as an unscrupulous fraudster who took advantage of the suffering of others, but also as a social parasite because she not only hid her extra income from the tax authorities, but also received social assistance. The final verdict: four years in prison and compensation.”
