Terrible tragedy in Perg, Upper Austria: Emergency services discovered the bodies of parents (82 and 75 years old) and their 57-year-old disabled daughter in the house on Friday afternoon. No one had heard from the family for two weeks: everything was locked, the blinds were down. A local “Krone” inspection.
From the outside, only police tape and an overflowing mailbox indicate the horrific crime that must have taken place in a single-family home in a quiet settlement in Perg. Emergency services found the bodies of an elderly couple and their daughter (57) there on Friday.
Many questions remain unanswered, the following is initially suspected: an 82-year-old is said to have murdered his wife (75) and then shot himself.
Daughter affected since adolescence
The couple’s bodies were found in the bedroom on the first floor. According to initial investigations, the daughter of the two – who is said to be severely disabled since she was bitten by a tick as a teenager – may have lived alone in the house after the crime. Her body was found in the basement. How she died and how long the three lay dead in her house is still completely unclear.
The last known contact with the family was at least on August 25, and the shutters are said to have been closed for over a week. The condition of the bodies was so bad that emergency services only entered the building wearing respiratory protection. As a result, the police have not yet been able to clearly identify the three dead – but there is no doubt about their identities.
Neighbor says: ‘I am deeply affected’
The neighbors were shocked when the local inspection “Krone” took place: “I am deeply affected. We often spoke to each other,” says an elderly woman who lives next door. The family is described by everyone as extremely friendly, but withdrawn.
Johann H. was an electrician, Brigitta H. cared for Sylvana, whom she had brought with her from her first marriage. Bringing the handicapped daughter – she often knocked on the window in the house, she had difficulty talking and walking – to a home was not an option for the parents, who still carried a burden: Johann suffered from cancer.
Detectives investigating, autopsy ordered
What exactly happened in the single-family home is now under investigation. “There is currently no evidence that a previously unknown person was involved in the crime,” says the Upper Austrian police. The public prosecutor’s office has now ordered an autopsy on the bodies.
Girlfriend stood before closed doors
The neighbors didn’t notice anything either: “I saw that the mailbox was gone, but I thought they were on vacation again. “I’m shocked,” say Erwin Maurer (69) and other neighbors in unison.
Only a friend of Brigitta H. raised the alarm. She had returned from vacation and had tried in vain to reach the 75-year-old, so she came to the house herself. No one opened the door – then she raised the alarm.
