Seriously injured – German crashes while walking in wheelchair

Date:

A German family’s hike in the Kleinwalsertal in Vorarlberg ended badly on Friday when a 63-year-old man in a wheelchair fell ten meters into the depths.

The German family from the Fürth district went hiking in the Kleinwalsertal on Friday. The hike took the group from Baad to Alpe Widderstein. One of the family members, a 63-year-old man, used an electric wheelchair.

At around 3 p.m., the 63-year-old suddenly went over the edge of the well-paved footpath in his wheelchair and fell about ten meters down a steep slope. He landed in the streambed of the Bärguntbach, where he remained seriously injured in the water.

Flight to the Kempten Clinic
A first aid worker immediately rushed to the wheelchair user. He rescued the man from the water and provided first aid. The Mittelberg mountain rescue service arrived with a total of ten members and pulled the injured man from the stream bed. He was then flown by emergency helicopter to the Kempten Hospital in Germany.
