Curiosity is probably not always a virtue: thanks to this maneuver, a 21-year-old from the Wolfsberg district maneuvered himself into an unfortunate situation. The fire department arrived.
The fire department of St. Paul im Lavanttal was called out to an unusual rescue operation on Friday. A 21-year-old man from the Wolfsberg district was draining water from his grandfather’s fish pond when he had an idea: “Out of curiosity, the 21-year-old climbed into the mud of the pond to check how deep it was,” the state police said. The young man suddenly sank up to his waist in the deep mud and was unable to free himself.
Cries for help alerted neighbors
Fortunately, an alert neighbor heard the man’s cries for help and immediately rushed to the scene. The neighbor first tried to pull the drowned man out of the muddy ground with a rope. This attempt failed, however, so he eventually called the fire department.
The emergency services of the St. Paul fire brigade in Lavanttal arrived with three vehicles and 14 men. With the help of a ladder and a rope, the firefighters finally managed to free the 21-year-old safely from the mud. Fortunately, the young man remained unharmed.
