A (salt) foretaste of what will come on Sunday has already been given on Saturday in terms of heat. In the afternoon the thermometer scratched 33 degrees, heat peaks were mainly found in the west. But Vienna also glowed at nearly 31 degrees. The mercury is expected to rise slightly higher on Sunday.
Especially in Tyrol and Vorarlberg, people sweated a lot on Saturday at temperatures of up to 33 degrees and wanted to cool down. But also in the east the thermometer often exceeded 30 degrees.
Looking at the provincial capitals, five of them reported values of 30 and more on Saturday afternoon: Innsbruck as the frontrunner registered 33 degrees, followed by Vienna with 31 and Salzburg, Linz and St. Pölten with 30 degrees each. In the other provincial capitals, however, it was not much cooler either: Klagenfurt, Bregenz and Eisenstadt reached the heat day limit with 29 degrees, Graz reported 28 degrees.
Heat peak on Sunday
Sunday threatens to get even hotter, according to the forecast even up to 36 degrees are possible – the highest temperatures are expected again, especially in western Austria. The heat will stay with us in the new week, but it should not be hotter than Sunday.
In any case, the health risk increases with the heat — especially for the elderly and those living in large cities — because the cardiovascular system is put under more strain. The danger of underestimating this is great.
