Curious use of the water rescue service at Pichlingersee in Linz: The appearance of the new emergency telephones recently led to a curious confusion. However, after a hot Saturday, there is also a demand for cool water and plenty of shade on a hot Sunday. More than 35 degrees is expected.
It gets hot, very hot. On Sunday, 35 degrees and more should be reached, especially in western Austria and also in parts of Upper Austria. The compatriots will then be driven back to their home lakes and the water rescue service will also be on the alert. “Of course a lot happens on such days, and the more people come, the more operations we have,” said Thomas Horner of the water rescue service at Pichlingersee in Linz.
Multiple alarms on the emergency phone
It’s not always about dramatic scenes, Horner explains. “We have new emergency telephones. Recently the alarm went off several times. When we got there, we found an elderly lady. She thought the pillars were showers, so she kept pushing the button,” Horner said. The misunderstanding was quickly cleared up.
New building in the planning
The building in which the 29 volunteers at the Pichingersee provide their service, however, is much less new. It was opened in 1973, almost 50 years ago. But now it is being renovated by Linz AG.
Here you can cool down
In addition to Lake Pichlingersee, you can also cool off on Sundays in the other lakes in Upper Austria. This works best in the Hallstätter See, as it is a refreshing 18 degrees there. In the Attersee you can cool down around 20 degrees, just like in the Traunsee.
The Mondsee already has 21 degrees. The small bathing lakes in Linz are naturally much warmer. The Pichlingersee already has 23 degrees, the Pleschingersee already 24 degrees. If you don’t like the water, the only option is to “escape” in the shade. Of course, the country’s forests are ideal. But churches are usually very well chilled. A little tip for the home: darken the apartment early and close the windows so that the warm air can’t get in.
