Weapons ban imposed – driver of sports car had a gun behind the wheel

Date:

After a motorist wielded a gun while driving in busy evening traffic in the Graz region, police officers arrested the 38-year-old as part of a sensational operation. His gun and ammunition were confiscated and he had to pay fines for several traffic violations.

Shortly after 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening, a civilian patrol from the Styrian State Transport Department (LVA) was on its way into the city on Triester Straße. The officers became aware of a sports car after the driver of the vehicle apparently handled an object in a conspicuous manner while driving. When the plainclothes police officers overtook the vehicle in front of them, they saw two men sitting in the vehicle. The driver (38) was holding a black pistol, which he turned around his index finger several times while driving. His passenger (21) was sitting next to him.

Search started
The plainclothes police officers immediately initiated a radio search for the vehicle in question. Several police patrols support this. Shortly before the intersection of Feldkirchner Strasse or the Feldkirchen area near Graz, police officers stopped the sports car in busy evening traffic and directly on Triester Strasse. The police officers, dressed in heavy protective equipment, confronted the apparently armed men in the vehicle.

Officers then found the gun in question in the glove compartment of the car. It turned out to be a deceptively real-looking empty gun. The 38-year-old driver from the Graz area stated that he only had it with him for self-protection purposes and out of fear of possible attacks.

Multiple traffic violations
The police confiscated the weapon and ammunition and issued a temporary weapons ban against the 38-year-old Austrian. It is displayed. The man also had to pay fines on the spot for several traffic violations. No one was injured.
