Dramatic scenes on the Dachstein on Thursday: a young Czech fell 18 meters from the ground. Wilfried Schrempf from the Seethalerhütte became (once again) a lifesaver!
Thursday around 11:15 am, a Czech stormed into the highest shelter in Styria at 2740 meters. “The man said his girlfriend had fallen into a hole,” says Wilfried Schrempf (pictured bottom right).
The innkeeper, who is also a mountain rescuer, grabbed his quad and showed him the hole. This was actually a huge gorge, the woman had fallen 18 meters down. Schrempf: “You could no longer be seen from above.” With a mountain guide who happened to be present, Schrempf immediately started the rescue operation and the emergency helicopter was also alerted – there was a danger to life.
After less than 20 minutes, the two experts were able to free the 25-year-old from her emergency. And they were stunned: the woman was completely unharmed! Which is almost a miracle.
What angers the experienced Bergfex Schrempf is the lack of facilities, equipment and ignorance that some people face on the Dachstein. “The Czech couple was also much too thinly dressed and not incarcerated. And you can’t move freely on the glacier right now. There are so many crevices, there are so many dangers.” A path was specially marked, information boards were erected…
