Dramatic scenes unfolded on Saturday evening after a fire on the Swiss shore of Lake Constance in Rorschach. The fire brigade managed to rescue a 29-year-old man from the third floor of an apartment building in time. Four other residents were also injured.
It is not known why the fire broke out shortly after midnight in an apartment building on Kirchstrasse. The staff of the Forensic Competence Center of the cantonal police are still investigating.
The only thing that is clear so far is that the fire broke out on the third floor. When the fire brigade arrived at the scene around 12:30, the third floor was completely filled with smoke. A 29-year-old woman who lived there was taken from her apartment by the Floriani Youngers, seriously injured. She was then taken to the hospital by ambulance.
The remaining residents were able to leave the apartment complex independently. However, four of them were also injured and taken to different hospitals.
Major material damage
The fire caused property damage worth tens of thousands of francs. The local fire brigade with about 60 members, the rescue service with several vehicles and medical specialists, as well as several patrols and specialists of the cantonal police of St. Gallen were present. A public prosecutor, a representative of the municipality and an employee of the building insurance were also present.
