The current storm situation in large parts of Austria has reached a worrying level. Given the current dangerous situation, important measures are being taken to protect students, teachers and school administration staff.
For this reason, students throughout Austria whose place of residence is directly affected by the severe weather disaster are automatically excused from Monday, September 16, 2024, as announced by the Ministry of Education.
Similarly, students who are unable to attend school because they cannot get to school due to obstacles in public transportation or because going to school would be too dangerous due to storm and flood damage are automatically considered excused.
School closures possible
If entire school sites have to close, parents, students and teachers will be notified directly by the school provider, i.e. the affected community, or management, the report said.
If planned school events have to be cancelled or postponed, parents and students will be informed directly through the school. The same rules apply to teachers and administrative staff at schools.
All teachers and administrative staff who work in disaster management, for example as part of the volunteer fire brigade, and whose presence in the disaster area is directly necessary, are automatically exempt.
