Where did the many hundreds of euros come from? They were floating in the water at a flooded recreation area in Wels. The police called the fire brigade after a passer-by raised the alarm. And then there was the big surprise.
“There are banknotes floating on the water,” a witness warned emergency services on Sunday. Banknotes, many of them 500 euro notes, were actually floating on the flooded area where the overflowing Grünbach is currently flowing.
Drone use
A simple rescue was not possible and it was unclear how much money was actually floating here. That is why the police called in the fire brigade to help. They were able to use a drone to identify the banknotes or bundles of money and lead comrades on Zillen to the money.
Thrown away or washed out
The recovered banknotes were handed over to the police and the trained officers were able to quickly make it clear that no treasure had been found here. On the contrary: it was counterfeit money.
It is unclear why the flowers were floating in the water. Either they were thrown away or the flood washed the bundles of counterfeit money out of their hiding place. In any case, investigators are certain that the owner will not come forward.
