Even today the death of cancer due to our atomic tests in the Pacific Ocean

Date:

In the 1940s and 1950s, the Marshall Islands in the Pacific were the scene of the United States. According to a new Greenpeace study, the effects can still be felt today. There are extra cancer because of the tests.

“These atomic bombing are not a completed chapter – they still have an impact on today,” says Thomas Breuer, head of the Greenpeace Peace Team. About a quarter of the total exposure to radiation from all above -ground nuclear tests worldwide go back to these series of tests. All inhabited atolls (Rif with a central lagoon, note) in the region, which has 50,000 inhabitants, were at the time radioactive, but only three of the 24 atmates received medical assistance.

Tumors and miscarriages
In May 1985, Greenpeace moved around 300 people from RONGELAP to another island who had decades ago due to health problems such as tumors, miscarriages and malformations in newborns. The nuclear weapon tests were also followed worldwide. “The mostly above-ground tests on bikini and enweak are among the strongest in history. The general everywhere on the total part on the Marshall Islands was 108 megatons-this corresponding to dropping a Hiroshima bomb for 20 years,” said the environmental protection organization.

For the current study, employees returned to the region to collect soil samples. This should investigate the ecological and radiological data in the long term. In addition, official documents from American military data, scientific analyzes and medical sources were recorded from 1945 to the present.

“Medical test objects without permission”
At that time, the residents were made medical test objects without their knowledge and their approval by the United States, Greenpeace criticized. “The tests on Rogelap are exemplary to inhumane, imperial politics that deliberately sacrificed human lives and ignored the pacifia cultures,” said Breuer. The affected affected eventually earned recognition, revaluation and justice.
