A total of 256 firefighters from Salzburg are currently on a rescue mission in Lower Austria. Every 24 hours there is a change of helpers from Salzburg in the flood areas.
Exactly 256 men and women from the Salzburg fire brigade are currently deployed in the disaster area in Lower Austria and are supporting their colleagues in Eastern Austria. The commander of the platoon from Pinzgau is Franz Eder. “We are on duty south of St. Pölten in the Pielachtal and are currently pumping out a farm with a stable and a house,” he reported to the “Krone” early on Monday afternoon.
The three disaster trains from Salzburg leave for the flood zone as early as four in the morning – and stay as long as necessary. As soon as they arrived, they felt the gratitude for their help. At a gas station, they were immediately paid for their coffee. “When we entered the city, people waved at us and thanked us,” says Eder. He and the entire platoon will be replaced by Pinzgau colleagues on Tuesday. The same will also happen to the other two trains from Pongau and the city of Salzburg together with Lungau.
On Wednesday, support will be provided by Flachgau and Tennengau. “We’ll see how it goes on Tuesday,” says state fire chief Günter Trinker. It remains to be seen whether the situation in the two Salzburg districts will have calmed down by then. “In general, the relief operation is planned for a week,” says Trinker.
