krone.at live overview – Situation critical, but great hope for relaxation

Date:

Finally, relaxation is in sight: After five days of persistent rain, clouds are expected to break over the flood-affected areas in the east today. A small glimmer of hope for those who have lost everything. Here you will find a live overview of all the latest information from the flood areas again today.

The full extent of the disaster will only become clear in the coming days and weeks, until the waters have fully receded. Until then, eastern Austria will remain in crisis mode.

  • The same rule applies to students today, Tuesday, as it did on Monday: Anyone who cannot attend class due to traffic congestion such as roadblocks or public transport disruptions is automatically excused.
  • The Danube power plants in Lower Austria are idle due to the flooding and the association expects restrictions on electricity generation until mid-week.
  • The storm disrupted large-scale blood donation campaigns, especially in Lower Austria. The Red Cross is now organizing short-term replacement options to maintain the blood supply. (Information and data: www.blut.at)
  • The ÖBB is maintaining its travel warning until Thursday evening and is asking people to avoid non-essential travel.
  • The Vienna metro lines will also be limited in operation until further notice. Only the U1 will operate on the entire route, all other lines will be interrupted or shortened.
  • Big companies also want to help: mobile phone providers A1, Magenta and Drei lifted restrictions on data and free minutes within Austria at the end of this week.
  • Coca-Cola is offering free drinks to all uniformed emergency workers at McDonald’s locations.
