As the storm situation eases, regular school activities will resume across Austria from Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Education.
The severe storms in Austria also affected school activities. Students in the affected areas who were unable to travel due to traffic were automatically excused on Monday.
Distance learning in some locations
In Lower Austria, which was particularly hard hit, 94 schools remained closed on Tuesday. It is currently being investigated whether distance learning will be offered temporarily at some particularly affected locations, a press release said on Tuesday afternoon.
Teachers and students who cannot yet come to school due to a limitation in public transport, should contact the school or the management individually. If separate rules apply to entire school locations, parents, students and teachers will be informed directly by the school provider (the municipality) or the management.
Volunteers remain exempt
Teachers and administrative staff who are still needed for disaster relief, for example in the volunteer fire brigade, will be automatically released. Department head Martin Polaschek (ÖVP) thanked the emergency services and everyone who made it possible for school activities to be resumed just a few days after the storm disaster.
