“Working for the devil” – triple murder: application for admission to an institution

Date:

After the gruesome murder of three young women in an erotic studio on Vienna’s Engerthstrasse, the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office requested that the Afghan asylum seeker be placed in a forensic therapy center. According to the report, the 27-year-old man was mentally incompetent at the time of the crime. He will therefore not appear before the jury as a defendant during his trial, but as a victim.

According to forensic expert Peter Hofmann, the man acted in the terrible act of February 23 under the “considerable influence of his mental disorder”, namely paranoid schizophrenia. The man came to Austria via Bulgaria, Serbia and Hungary at the end of 2021. According to his housing application, he met a refugee helper in a refugee camp on his escape route. From his perspective, the woman was a witch who had bewitched him.

Knives bought specifically for murder
“He discovered a verse in the Koran that speaks of an enemy. When he read this verse, God ordered him to carry out jihad against these enemies,” writes the StA Vienna. The man bought three knives of different sizes in a supermarket, according to the application, with the aim of killing prostitutes who he believed worked for witches and the devil.

Huge violence
On the night of the crime, the Afghan left the apartment to go to a mosque for Friday prayers. He had the knives with him. At around 8 p.m., he rang the doorbell at the Asiastudio on Engerthstrasse. He is said to have taken off his shoes at the entrance and gone to the first floor with the operator. She assigned him a room. When the prostitute entered the room, he violently attacked the woman as soon as she entered the room and killed the woman with 16 stab wounds.

The man then allegedly searched for other prostitutes in the studio to kill them. He stabbed his second victim 20 times. According to the arrest request, the 27-year-old stabbed the operator, who had fled to the bathroom, more than 60 times. The woman was the third victim of the shocking crime.

It was a massacre
Expert Hofmann explains that the crime was a disaster in which the man wanted to kill as many people as possible in the shortest possible time. A date for the jury trial is still pending. The Afghan is represented by attorney Philipp Springer.
