In Lebanon, hundreds of members of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah were injured on Tuesday when their pagers, which they used for internal communications, exploded simultaneously. The terrorist militia suspects that the Israeli secret service has penetrated its communications system.
The wounded were reported in the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut and the south of the country, a source close to Hezbollah told AFP news agency. Images from Lebanon showed people bleeding profusely in the streets.
Did Israel hack Hezbollah’s radio system?
A senior Lebanese security official who spoke to Al-Hadath TV suspects that Israeli intelligence infiltrated Hezbollah’s communications system and deliberately caused the explosions. However, there has been no official confirmation from Israel.
Another security official confirmed to Al-Jazeera that the explosions occurred not only in Beirut, but also in the Bekaa Valley and southern Lebanon. According to this source, Israel had hacked Hezbollah’s radio system.
As a Reuters correspondent reported, security forces across the country have urged citizens to clear streets so emergency vehicles carrying the many wounded can pass quickly.
In recent months, Reuters news agency has noted and reported that Hezbollah has reverted to outdated methods of communication – such as the pager – to avoid surveillance of its activities.
