On the other hand, the Minister of Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability has announced a new programme of 260 million euros aimed at combating climate change and decarbonising industry.
The debate about renewable energies requires ‘reflection as a country’ and a ‘serene’ discussion on renewable energy to find ‘balanced’ solutions and avoid a ‘huge foreign import’. These are the words of the Minister of Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability of the Basque Government, Mikel Jauregiwho on Tuesday outlined the main lines of action for his department for the next four years in a parliamentary committee.
In his speech, he called for “not resting on our laurels” and for “making a qualitative leap” so that Basque companies can benefit from the “energy and digital transformation”. “We have to fix the roof while it is sunny, we cannot waste time. These four years are crucial to decide whether we want to be pioneers in the great transformations or whether we want to lag behind. We must all bet on it as a country, otherwise we will lose opportunities,” he said.
The advisor has placed particular emphasis on the importance of energy self-sufficiency for Euskadi, which presents a percentage of 8.7%, well below the European average of 41.8% and the state average of 28.2%.
On the other hand, Jauregi has a new program of 260 million euros aimed at combating climate change and decarbonising industry, of which €100 million will be earmarked for promoting industrial energy efficiency and reducing emissions, and a further €160 million for promoting industrial and domestic self-consumption.
