“Thank you for your love and support,” reads the content of a personal Instagram message. Sender: Philipp Hochmair.
Fans’ hearts are probably beating so fast right now that many people don’t notice: the message doesn’t come from the real Philipp Hochmair! A fake profile has taken on the identity of the popular actor and is trying to rip off his fans!
If the personal messages on Instagram initially start out pompous, the fraudsters quickly switch to the encrypted messaging service Telegram. There, fans of the fake Hochmair are urgently asked for help, see the chat history.
The fraudsters demand voucher cards and then their activation codes. Anyone who complies with these demands loses their money!
The police advise: be skeptical and do not let yourself be pressured. Breaking contact and reporting the fake profile are also recommended.
