Underpants are banned in the outdoor pools in Bruck an der Mur and Kapfenberg in Styria. It is said that more and more boys do not have suitable swimsuits. Now the hygiene directive is attracting attention on the internet.
Striped underpants. In the swimming pools in Bruck an der Mur and Kapfenberg, signs must inform swimmers that they are not allowed to enter the water with underwear (and a combination of underpants and swimming trunks). This ban is currently circulating on the internet and is causing controversy.
Not compatible with pool hygiene
But the sign is nothing new — and neither is the trend for such swimwear. “This ban has been in place since pool hygiene has existed,” says an employee of the Brucker outdoor pool, who does not want to read his name here. “Underpants are not suitable swimwear. That’s why we’ve had the board for three or four years.”
Young boys are said to have repeatedly jumped into the pool wearing swimming trunks and underpants at the same time – causing misunderstanding among older swimmers. “We also point out the ban to those affected. Then they usually stick to it.”
“One does not bathe in underwear”
You can see the situation in Kapfenberg like this. “There have always been people who just went swimming in their underwear. Anyone who does that has to change,” explains an employee. This is about hygiene for all swimmers.
What do you think of the underwear ban? Do you understand why some people go swimming in their underwear? Tell us what you think in the comments!
