The drama happened when he was alone on his way to the state line, as a mountain biker found the crashed car Sunday morning. The all-terrain vehicle was on the roof in a stream bed just under 200 meters from the Straninger Alm. The innkeeper of the Alm immediately alerted the emergency services, who have recovered the vehicle.
For the Italian, however, all help came too late – the emergency doctor could only confirm his death. In addition to the mountain rescue service Kötschach-Mauthen with ten men, there were also five volunteer fire brigades from the area with a total of 60 men.
