Quartararo is happy to “save the furniture with good results”

Fabio Quartararo did more than salvage his belongings on Sunday at the Red Bull Ring with a superb second place and just lost five points to Pecco Bagnaia in what looked to be the Ducati Cup. However, he was very happy to “save the tools in this second position”, which he considered “a great result for the championship”.

“It was a great race and it’s a shame that we didn’t have a good start or a good first few laps, because my rear was a bit difficult and I saw Joan Mir fall harshly and I would have preferred to take a few laps. to warm up the tire, but then I became too aggressive, always riding at the limit because it’s like doing a classification every lap, assuming there are many risks”, assured the head of world.

Quartararo took a risk by inventing overtaking Jack Miller where they barely saw each other in the three races in the new variant of turns 2a and 2b: “I think Jack braked a little and then, I had to try there, despite that it was a place where it seemed impossible for me to overtake, but it worked, because of all the skills I was between the Ducatis, so mentally it was very good to overcome them, because I know that they will be very strong. in this circuit and this is a result that is needed”.

“I don’t want to say who is the best, but I know that today I give my best and we have some difficulties on the bike; I honestly expected that this circuit will have more difficulties, but felt I’m good. in the race and even Ducati they are very strong, you have to have the right rider on the right bike”, said Quartararo about the fact that Aleix Espargaró said about him that he is the best rider in the category.

He recalled Bagnaia’s victory: “At Silverstone I already pointed out that he is the man to beat and for me he is the favourite, as he has shown in the last three races, but if you look at the standings I have two opponents, Pecco and Aleix. . We will see in the next circuits who is the strongest”, insisted the Yamaha rider.

Quartararo found a good ally in the new variant because “this weekend in the last laps I could be behind Jack -Miller- until the third gear and then it escaped me. You arrive at the chicane in fourth, and we only put the sixth in two places on the circuit, so I could be closer to braking,” explained the Frenchman.

As for the possibility that Bagnaia was “chased”, the world leader sincerely recalled that “the race has 28 laps for everyone and it is always easy to say there are two more laps, but the truth is that I arrived late and I’ve finished the race.”
