The Ecuadorian Richard Carapazwinner of the 17th episode of Tour de Franceassured that it was “a very special feeling, the best” and considered it more difficult to achieve it in this race than in other majors, to which he has added them in the past.
“It has been a special day, I had this stage marked in red, it has been very hard and thanks to the team we have been able to achieve it. It is a stage that I will remember forever,” said the EF cyclist.
“For me it’s something very special, it’s my first victory in the Tour and it’s obviously the biggest race and it’s harder to win than the others, so achieving it is special,” said the first Ecuadorian to win the gala round
Carapaz stated that he ran the final “intelligently”: “I know how to go for Simon Yates, I knew he was a good wheel to achieve a certain advantage that would allow me to win.”
The EF cyclist became the first Ecuadorian to win a stage at the Tour just days after he was the first to wear the yellow jersey.
“Winning a stage is a goal for the team, but when I had the yellow it was something incredible, it was the most,” he said.
