There is renewed excitement about halal meat at a school in Lower Austria. This time, a teacher’s letter caused a stir at the European School in Wiener Neustadt. This also concerns preferences for cooking classes…
For the second time in a few days, a teacher’s letter during cooking lessons has caused quite a stir. After – as reported – a shopping list caused protests in a secondary school in Felixdorf, Wiener Neustadt district, because parents were only allowed to buy meat in Turkish supermarkets, now comes the news from an educator in the district capital a few kilometers away.
“Like a compulsive purchase”
Although the cooking classes at the European School in Wiener Neustadt only asked who only eats halal meat, this goes too far for some parents. “Because it seems like an urge to buy. At least nine out of eleven students in my child’s group checked. With this investigation, they have apparently found a loophole in the law,” says one father, who immediately draws a comparison with Felixdorf.
But unlike the situation in the surrounding community, the education directorate is now behaving more cautiously: “A survey was conducted here, on the basis of which purchases were made and the needs of individual students were taken into account.” designed by the educator and does not represent a general ‘We only advise schools to pay attention to healthy eating and to buy regional food,’ says the Education Directorate.
FPÖ: “Students suffer from mass migration”
Michael Sommer, a member of the FPÖ state parliament, is clearer: “Our students should not be the ones who suffer from mass migration. As you can see from Felixdorf and Wiener Neustadt, this is not an isolated case.”
