Israel bombs ‘military buildings’ and ‘weapons warehouse’ in Lebanon reportedly used by Hezbollah

Date:

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has stressed that “the center of gravity” of his operations is increasingly on the northern border, and has spoken of a “new phase of the war.”

Early on Thursday, the Israeli military bombed “military buildings” and a “weapons warehouse” reportedly used by the Shiite militia party Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, amid a rise in tensions after two days of coordinated explosions, attacks attributed to Israel.

“During the night, air force warplanes struck Hezbollah military buildings in the areas of Shenin, Al Taiba, Bleida, Mis al Jabal, Ait Arun and Kafarkila, in southern Lebanon,” the Israeli military said.

Thus, the country stressed that its planes also attacked “an arms warehouse used by the organization in the Al Khiam area” and added that it also attacked “several areas” in southern Lebanon with artillery, without Hezbollah being involved so far on these incidents. The Lebanese group has confirmed in the past few hours the deaths of around twenty of its members, including a teenager, after the new wave of explosions in communications equipment in Lebanon, which caused more than between Tuesday and Wednesday. According to estimates by the Lebanese Ministry of Health, 30 people have been killed and over 3,200 wounded.

The increase in clashes between Israel and Hezbollah – an Iranian-backed group that has considerable military and political weight in Lebanon – has raised fears about the possibility of an extension of the conflict in the Middle East. In this context, the Israeli army last week presented its “operational plans” regarding Lebanon to the United States.
