Visitors irritated – Gardaland closes earlier due to staff shortage

Date:

Gardaland amusement park in Verona is struggling with a lack of seasonal workers. Rather than as scheduled at 11pm, part of the park is to close at 7pm as of today (Sunday). “We regret the disappointment of this situation, for which we hope to find a solution as soon as possible,” wrote the operating company of Italy’s largest amusement park.

The Gardaland Resort company is responding to the numerous protest messages on its Facebook page. “We are in the process of hiring the missing employees and integrating them into our team. Once we have hired the necessary number of employees, we will gradually open the closed attractions so that our visitors can fully enjoy their days in the park.”

Italy’s largest amusement and theme park covers 200,000 square meters and was visited by 2.7 million people annually before the pandemic.

New jobs due to pandemic
The Italian tourism and leisure industry is currently struggling with staff shortages. About 350,000 seasonal workers are missing in the country. The hoteliers also complain about vacancy, in many structures a third of the necessary staff is missing.

“Due to the pandemic, hospitality and tourism have not been able to guarantee the minimum stability that used to exist and workers are looking for something else. They have taken jobs as couriers, construction workers, warehouse workers and drivers,” reports Paolo Manca, president of the Federalberghi Hoteliers Association in Sardinia.
