Eyewitnesses to the attack reported dramatic scenes. “We were having class and suddenly we heard a strange bang,” said one survivor. Then suddenly someone shot through the door. The students barricaded the entrance with benches, then climbed out of windows and jumped onto a balcony below to save themselves.
Man and baby, as well as father, were also killed before a massacre
According to police reports, the gunman had already randomly killed a man and his two-month-old daughter in a Prague suburb on December 15. Shortly before the attack on Charles University, he also murdered his father in the home they shared.
There were no indications of a terrorist background to the attack. The 24-year-old owned his gun legally and had no criminal record. Charles University has launched a fundraiser for the injured and the families of those who died.
