Apparently he received the gifts before he became prime minister, when he was head of the opposition, and later included suits, glasses and tickets to watch football matches and enjoy concerts.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer received gifts worth 120,000 euros, according to British media. The Labour leader apparently received clothes, hotel accommodation or football tickets.
In reality, the House of Commons Code of Ethics does not prohibit receiving gifts from prime ministers, nor is it illegal, but Labour’s Starmer is in the crosshairs of criticism on the one hand because he is on a salary of 200,000 euros a year, and on the other because he has just announced a tax increase that will tighten citizens’ belts even further.
This is the first major crisis for Starmer, who, as has just been reported, has received such gifts before he became prime minister, when he was leader of the opposition, and afterwards.
The gifts included suits worth £13,000 and glasses worth £2,000. He also received a whopping 40 tickets to go to Arsenal, a team he supports, and enjoyed Taylor Swift’s concert, with tickets costing £3,000.
His wife Victoria also received gifts worth 6,000 euros, such as clothes and make-up.
